Good Work

"To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life—this is indeed a gift from God."
— Ecclesiastes 5:19

Introduction

The Bible begins with a working week. Before anything else happens, God works: creating, organising, designing, building and delegating. Then he makes people in his image and gives us responsibility for his world. Work matters because it is one of the main ways we worship God, serve our neighbours and help people flourish.

This autumn, GOOD WORK will explore why God made work, what it is for and how we can approach it in a way that honours him. We will consider the gifts and pressures of work: rest and toil, service, ambition, integrity, money, home, stewardship and the hope of work restored in God's new creation. Whether our work is paid or unpaid, public or unseen, all of us have important work to do. May we do it all for the glory of God.

Good Work — Doing All Things for the Glory of God

Videos

Videos from the series will become available on this page as we go through the term — Sunday talks, group discussion videos and other material to help us go deeper.

Do check back each week.

Groups & Resources

We really want to encourage everyone to be part of a group this term. During the week, many of our groups will follow the series, helping us connect the Sunday teaching with everyday life through Bible passages, short videos, discussion, practical responses and prayer.

Good Work Careers Fayre

Careers Fayre

Alongside the series we will be running a careers fayre, connecting people with professionals from the church working in the fields they are interested in. Whether you are choosing a course, changing direction or just starting out, come and talk to someone who has walked the road.

Workbook

The GOOD WORK workbook takes you through the series week by week with Bible passages, questions for discussion, practical responses, prayer points and space for notes.

Your group leader will hand these out as we go through the series. A digital copy is here for reference.

Podcast

We are recording one podcast episode for this series, looking at work in the age of AI.

It will be released in week seven, on our baptism Sunday, and you will be able to watch or listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and YouTube.

Recommended Books

Here are a few books we would recommend to help you think through work and vocation as we go through the series. They are available online from a variety of book shops.

Families and Youth

As well as teaching through the series on Sundays, our kids and youth will be exploring what it means to work hard, work well and use the gifts God has given them.
