One Church Summer Picnic
King’s is one church meeting in four venues and six meetings on a Sunday. Becoming multi-site has enabled us to keep growing despite the specific challenges that come with urban life. As with most large cities, space in London is limited, land and building costs are high, and local planning regulations are often restrictive. The combination of these factors means it is not feasible to have one venue and one meeting to serve everyone who attends King’s. We expanded into a multi-site model as a response to growth rather than a vehicle for it.
So moving to a multi-site model has allowed us to accommodate and adjust to growth within our city context. It also has other advantages: in being part of a site you get the benefits of belonging to a smaller local community, whilst enjoying the many resources that come from being a larger church. But it is possible to miss the full picture of who we are as a body of believers when your only experience of King’s is through the lens of your particular site. That is why I love the annual church summer picnic. It is one of the occasions when we can visualise the church we are a part of. It is also a fantastic, fun time! So I do hope you will join us on Sunday July 16th, at Ladywell Arena in Lewisham, for what is always a very enjoyable afternoon. It’s a great opportunity to invite friends and family, catch up with people from other sites, or perhaps arrange to sit with others from your small group. Bring your own lunch or take advantage of the bbq and ice creams that will be available to buy. There will also be face painting, games and other activities for children. I look forward to seeing you there.
