Growing in leadership

I am always as eager to develop my own leadership gift as I am to encourage others in our churches to do the same. This week I have had the privilege to gather with like-minded leaders from fifteen large churches from different countries across Europe - a great opportunity to think about and discuss together how we lead our churches! This event is hosted by Leadership Network and on this occasion we are learning from the leadership team of a large church called Gateway from the USA.

Next week I am looking forward to hearing Dr. Henry Cloud speak at a day conference on Leadership and Boundaries - he has written an excellent book on the subject and was a contributor to the Willow Creek Global Leadership Summit a couple of years ago.

The following weekend there is the opportunity for many of us to benefit from the experience and wisdom of some first class leaders when King's hosts this year's Global Leadership Summit videocast conference at our Catford site. This great event takes place on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th of October and it's not too late to book in (there is a £30 discount for regular King's attenders). I am looking forward to being there and to seeing as many of you as can make it - it will be well worth it! And with the conference fast approaching, it's the last chance to sign up for the GLS - sign in online here.

Whatever context in which you exercise leadership, whether at home, in a secular work context or in the life of the church, it is good to continue to have your leadership gift challenged, encouraged and stretched. Being faithful in these roles now will be essential preparation for whatever God has for us in the future! We have a great Biblical encouragement from Jesus for that in the Parable of the Talents! (Matt 25:14-30)

So... can I ask you - how are you investing in your leadership development?
