Team Culture
This week, I have been in rural France with our senior staff team for our annual week of prayer and planning. This is something we have done for a number of years now and it has become a highlight in the calendar for me. Once again, we have been enjoying the excellent hospitality of our friends Paul and Charlotte Braithwaite at their lovely home just south of the Loire.
‘Team culture’ is a phrase I often hear being used, but it is not always clear what is meant by it. Simply put, it asks the question, ‘What is it like to work around here?’. King’s is a growing church with a big vision. It requires team members who possess a high capacity and a ‘make it happen’ approach to problems. However, too much focus on this means that our team culture can quickly become driven and task orientated. Our time in France gives us valuable opportunity to ensure we are building relationally. As well as giving time to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing us as a local church (we spent two hours today discussing what would need to change if we are to become a church of 2500 with six sites!), we have space in the day to enjoy leisurely meals, walks in the surrounding countryside and some very competitive games of badminton and table tennis! It is always a week well spent.
This weekend Deb and I will be visiting King’s Church, High Wycombe, where we will be joining that church in honouring Neil and Des Bartlett. Neil has been their Senior Pastor for 26 years and is now retiring and handing over to John Harbour. I have the privilege of preaching there on Sunday as they mark the end of one season and the beginning of another. Meanwhile at King’s London, we continue our Revelation series.
