Global 2016
Deb and I have just returned from an excellent week at the annual Newfrontiers conference. Five years on from when Terry Virgo handed over the movement to his ‘sons’, there was a tremendous sense of unity in the room as we gathered with friends from all around the world – ‘from London down to Cape Town, from LA to Beijing’, to quote one of my favourite Lex Loizides’ songs!
Following the handover from Terry in 2011, it has taken the movement a number of years to find its feet. Like a toddler taking his first experimental steps, progress has been slow at times, but this year I felt more than ever a genuine joining of hearts and faith for world mission.
Among the many highlights were the times of prayer for friends in countries where gospel preaching, or life in general, can be demanding, challenging, and sometimes dangerous. To pray and cry out to God for places such as India, Pakistan, The Crimea, China, The Middle East, Zimbabwe and many other African nations, was deeply moving. Throughout the week our worship was joyful, as we were ably led by a small band made up of a team from New York and Moscow. We were a truly international group joined by common purpose.
